Every spring school districts around the nation administer assessments aimed to inform educators as to how to better meet student needs. One assessment option is the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT), which is often used as a tool to inform placement into Gifted and Talented Education (GATE). MBUSD has administered the OLSAT as one measure to determine placement in the GATE program, and has historically done so via the paper and pencil version. Our paper and pencil version is hand scored and raw scores are converted into scaled scores, which are then converted into a school-ability index. These calculations are time consuming and do not provide a comprehensive report that can be obtained when paying Pearson to score the OLSAT for MBUSD.
Pearson has released another option to take the OLSAT, an online edition. This testing option costs less to score, provides almost immediate results, and prepares a detailed report for parents and schools to analyze. It is recommended to transition from the paper and pencil version of the OLSAT to the online version. |
